I never tire of making objects in clay. There are too many things to learn about the medium in just one lifetime so I am continually challenged, surprised and enamored with the process.

I approach form with the eye of a designer and surface through my experience as a decorative painter. As I work through ideas, I often sketch them on paper first. In that way, a thought becomes something tangible. Using a potter’s wheel, I build on those illustrations, subtracting elements from the design until I have a simple piece that continues to hold visual interest. It’s a fine balance.

I am fixated on circles.
I’m intrigued by the space created when two lines meet.
I use abstracted text for pattern and rhythm.

My aim is to have the work be not about function, but rather, to bring about a certain state of mind, to stimulate the imagination. In that way, the objects communicate my ideas better than any words I might use.
